Can drinking cold water prevent pregnancy? Can drinking hot water prevent pregnancy?

A whole lot of ladies have put their hands into many things and have tried different methods to prevent pregnancy. Yesterday, I received a mail from a lady asking if drinking either cold chilled water or hot water will prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex. It took me several hours to convince her that drinking cold water or hot water after sex cannot prevent pregnancy or flush out sperm from her body. She said her friend have been using this method for years and it has never failed her….I had to tell her that was not possible , if her friend having been having unprotected sex in her fertile period (barring the absence of female or male fertility), she would have taken in by now.

Can drinking cold water prevent pregnancy? No

Many ladies believe drinking cold or hot water after sex will kill the sperm by either freezing them or burning them out. This is very untrue. Some even cold water can be used to remove unwanted pregnancy. Cold water will fail you when used as contraception. Hot water will fail you when you depend on it for contraception….even when you add salt to the water , it will still fail you.

Other than using cold or hot water to flush out sperm to prevent getting pregnant, there are more effective contraception pills called emergency contraceptive pills…..emergency contraceptive pills like postinor , postpill, plan b etc are very much available in the market and are more reliable.

Emergency Contraceptive pills: How do they work and what are the side effects?

Pregnancy doesn’t happen right after sex, as such it’s possible to prevent pregnancy even after the fact. Emergency contraception pills work by preventing a woman’s ovary from releasing an egg for longer than usual. Pregnancy cannot happen if there is no egg to join with sperm.

A number of side effects have been reported among the millions of women who have used the morning-after pill, including:
– Periods may come earlier or later than usual.
– Periods may be heavier or lighter than usual.
– Breast tenderness (painful breasts)
– Dizziness or headaches.
– Nausea or vomiting. If you vomit within two hours of taking the pill(s), it won’t be effective and you need to take it again.
– Frequent use may cause periods to become irregular and unpredictable.

NOTE:
1. Emergency contraception should not be used as a form of ongoing birth control because there are other forms of birth control that are a lot more effective and less expensive.
2. Emergency contraception does not protect against sexually transmitted infections. You may want to consider getting tested if there is a possibility that unprotected sex put you at risk.
3. The morning-after pill is not the abortion pill. Emergency contraception is birth control, not abortion.

Conclusion;

Cold water does not prevent pregnancy , neither will hot water….Emergency contraceptive pills are the surest method of contraception.
