Can dettol kill scabies mite? Can dettol get rid of scabies? Can dettol treat scabies?

It is true dettol solution and dettol soap have antiseptic property, no doubt. But dettol does not cure scabies mite both in humans and in animals especially dogs and cats…. You cannot use dettol to get rid of scabies. In other words, dettol has no effect whatsoever in the treatment of scabies. Rather, dettol will aggravate the severe itching and burning sensations associated with scabies infestations.

Dettol should never be used on broken skin as it can trigger a life threatening allergic reaction… Scabies breaks the skin and using dettol to bath will not get rid of your scabies infestations but may put you at a grave risk of allergy. Dettol does not and cannot kill the scabies causative organism (mite) called sarcoptei scabei.

What treats and cures scabies is benzyl benzoate and not chloroxylenol. Chloroxylenol is the active ingredient in dettol and it does not kill scabies at all. There is no ingredient in dettol that confers it the ability to treat scabies or cure eczema. None at all. What cures scabies are benzyl benzoate, tetmosol soap, permethrin, ivermetin etc. You can take loratadine for the intense itching and sometimes you may require antibiotics if the affected part of the skin is secondarily infected by bacteria.

According to Wikipedia:

“The active ingredient in Dettol that confers its antiseptic property is chloroxylenol (C8H9ClO), an aromatic chemical compound. Chloroxylenol comprises 4.8% of Dettol’s total admixture, with the rest made up of pine oil, isopropanol, castor oil, soap and water.”

You can now see that dettol has not effect on scabies. And bathing with dettol with the hope of treating, curing, preventing or getting rid of scabies mite is a complete waste of time and money…. Instead go and use the money to get a bottle of benzyl benzoate and some tablets of loratadine to kill all scabies parasite or mites in your body and prevent the severe itching especially at night. Permethrin and ivermetin also works for scabies. But you see dettol, it does not eradicate scabies, so stop using it for scabies.
