Echocardiography is a test that uses high frequency sound waves (ultrasound) to produce live images of the structure of your heart. The image is called an echocardiogram. This test allows your doctor to monitor how your heart muscles and its valves are functioning. The images can also help them get information about: blood clots in the heart chambers and major vessels.
Why do people need an echocardiogram test?
Your cardiologist may use an echo test to look at your heart’s structure and check how well your heart functions. The test helps your her/him find out:

💥The heart’s pumping strength.
💥If the heart valves are working correctly.
💥If blood is leaking backwards through your heart valves (regurgitation).
💥If the heart valves are too narrow (stenosis).
💥If there is a tumor or infectious growth around your heart valves.
Echocardiography will also help your doctor find out if there are:
➡️Problems with the outer lining of your heart (the pericardium).

While lying supine, some gel are applied to your chest to help sound waves travel faster and thereafter, some electrodes are placed on your chest to trace your heart beats (ECG). Your doctor or technician thereafter rub a probe (transducer) on your bare chest to produce this sound waves that will be represented as images on the video monitor. These images will be recorded and interpreted.
