Does apple cedar vinegar cure keloids or remove scars?

Keloids can be considered to be a disfiguring “scar” that don’t know when to stop.” A keloid, sometimes referred to as a keloid scar, is a tough heaped-up scar that rises quite abruptly above the rest of the skin. It usually has a smooth top and a pink or purple color. Keloids are irregularly shaped and tend to enlarge progressively. Unlike scars, keloids do not regress over time.

Keloids on its own are not harmful but are ugly and a source of psychological distress or trauma to keloid formers.

Various medical therapies like surgical excision, intralesional triamcinolone (kenalog), intralesional 5FU, intralesional interferon, pressure therapy, radiotherapy, laser therapy, cryotherapy, and compression therapy have been applied to the treatment or removal of keloids but the results are not really satisfactory. This is because of the fibrous (tough) nature, and high recurrence rate of the keloids ever after removal. The treatment for these bumps are not instant and could be cumbersome. More effective methods are right now been researched.

Many non-medical practitioners claim keloid scars can be treated or removed by apple cedar vinegar. But how true?

I copied part of an article on how apple cedar vinegar cure keloids from the Guardian.

It reads……………….

“You know what they say about taking an apple a day? Now imagine what the organic raw apple cider vinegar can do. ACV has been used since the time of Hippocrates and the ancient Babylonians to cure certain sicknesses including candida, heartburn, arthritis, sunburn, lower blood pressure and to promote insulin sensitivity. This vinegar goodness contains acetic acid which kills bad bacteria, polyphenols which can prevent cancer and probiotics. Although there are different natural ways and surgical operation methods to reduce keloids, one does not need a magician to see why ACV is the favourite of many. Unlike surgical operations which do not guarantee a permanent cure, you can bid goodbye to this thorn in the flesh with ACV.

Consistent use of ACV has proven to prevent keloids from swelling and reduce itching. Its mild stingy feeling (something you can handle) means it is actively working on it. After a few days or weeks, it is not difficult to see how it visibly divides the keloids and flattens it. While it would generally become noticeably soft and red, scabs may appear for some. Do not be tempted to peel it off as it can get irritated and inflamed.

While some undertake a simple procedure of rubbing an ACV-drenched cotton wool directly on the keloid for 10-30 minutes in order to stimulate the healing process before leaving it to air-dry, some prefer leaving the cotton wool on and using a Band-Aid overnight. You skipped a day’s application? Not to worry. See it as allowing the keloid heal on its own.”

It is like magic! In a Thanos-like manner, these health hawkers believe apple cedar vinegar or any other herbal concoctions like onion juice, lemon juice, petroleum jelly, Aloe Vera, honey, sandalwood, rose water, turmeric, baking powder, and grapefruit seed extract cures keloids with a click of the finger. The mechanism of action are not known and the testimonies are usually faked and arranged.
