Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted bacteria that causes pelvic inflammatory disease and subsequent tubal blockage. Chlamydia also causes genital ulcers called chancroid of the penis. Chlamydia causes urinary tract infection and can cause sore throat also. Eyes can be affected too.

Azithromycin is an antibiotic usually prescribed in a single, large dose. Doxycycline is an antibiotic that must be taken twice per day for about one week.

Now, acyclovir is an antiviral drug used to treat some selected types of viral infection like herpes simplex, warts, shingles etc.

You can now see that an antiviral drug like acyclovir cannot be used to treat a bacteria infection caused by chlamydia. It is a waste of time.
