Full List of Universities that offer Pharm D in Nigeria

Pharmacy is the clinical health science that links medicine with chemistry and it is charged with the discovery, production, disposal, safe and effective use and control of medications and drugs. A Pharmacist is a well trained health professional who is responsible for the management and distribution of medicines and ha the scientific knowledge to counsel patients on how to correctly use medicines and the potential side effects.

Pharm D or Doctor of Pharmacy is a professional degree in Pharmacy. It is a doctorate level degree earned by aspiring Pharmacists in Pharmacy School equivalent to an MD earned by physicians (but they are not medical doctors). They work in the area of Pharmacy where drugs like intravenous antibiotics, pain relievers and dietary supplements are dispensed and where procedures such as Chemotherapy are carried out. They keep track of their patients’ progress and make adjustments to their medications as appropriate. The course duration is six years in total inclusive of five years learning and one year of internship for practical learning. It is one of the doctorate degrees that can be pursued immediately after secondary school.

For now there are only six (6) NUC accredited universities in Nigeria that offer Pharm D in Nigeria and they are;
👉University of Benin, Benin, Edo state.
👉Bayero University, Kano state.
👉University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu state.
👉University of Jos, Jos, Plateau state.
👉University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Kwara state and
👉University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Oyo state.
👉Lagos State University, Lagos has just commenced degree program for Pharm D.

Most universities accept students with minimum of a 2nd class upper in relevant courses (Medical Laboratory Science, Biochemistry, Anatomy, etc) for admission to study Pharmacy, some schools accept 2nd class lower but this reduces the chances of being admitted. Generally some of the requirements are, while each university has unique criterion for admission, you need at least five ‘credit’ passes in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology in not more than ‘two sittings’ at O’level to study Pharm D. It is also advisable to visit your proposed school of admission for enquiries. You can get admission by buy a Joint Admission and Matriculation Board Direct Entry Form (JAMB DE Form) for Direct entry candidates and a JAMB registration form for UTME candidates.
