POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS OF DATES FRUIT

Some days ago we posted an article on Date and its health benefits. Today we will be looking at its possible side effects.

Dates are a great food for your health. They contain multiple vitamins and minerals that can boost and maintain the health of your body in various ways. Unfortunately, there may be some downsides of dates that you should know about.

1. High Glycemic Index:

Side effects of dates for diabetes. While dates can be a great natural pick-me-up due to their sugar content, that same sugar content can be an issue for others, especially diabetics who have to keep close check on their blood sugar levels.

Because of their high sugar content, dates are considered a high-glycemic food. The glycemic index or GI is a measurement of how quickly a food affects the blood glucose levels. Dates have a GI score of 103, while glucose is measured at 100. They are also a high-glycemic-load food, which is a measurement of how much the carbohydrate content of a food affects blood sugar levels. Because dates are high in carbohydrates with 74g per 100g, they have a high glycemic load. Overconsumption of high glycemic index and load foods can increase your chances of type-2 diabetes, heart disease and obesity.

2. Allergies:

The truth is that some people are just allergic to things for unknown reasons, and dates are no exception to that rule. Date allergies tend not to be life threatening, but they can be serious enough to cause discomfort and other issues.
The side effects of dates are important to consider when battling with one sickness or the other. If you are truly concerned about how dates in your diet will affect you, discuss with your Dietitian whether these fruits are right for you.

3. Fructose Intolerance:

Dates are naturally sweet. The natural sweetness of dates comes in part, from its fructose content. Fructose is a natural sugar found in fruits and a few vegetables, and some people have difficulty digesting the sugar. Also known as fructose intolerance, poor fructose absorption leads to the sugar passing through the digestive system whole because your body is not able to break it down. When it reaches the intestines, it can cause diarrhea and gas as well as abdominal pain because it reacts with the natural bacteria in your gut.

👉NOTE:

If eating dates causes constant stomach pain that increases and causes vomiting and excessive diarrhea, you may have food poisoning. Food poisoning occurs when you eat dates that contain infectious organisms. Call your doctor if you develop blood in your vomit or stools.
