Putting thread on a child’s head does NOTHING for hiccups.

Putting thread on a child’s head does NOTHING for hiccups.

Putting thread on a child’s head does NOTHING for hiccups.

Putting wet paper on baby’s forehead does not treat hiccups.

Putting string on baby’s forehead does not stop hiccups

Putting a piece of cotton on a child’s forehead will not stop hiccups.

Our parents meant well.

But it’s a myth.

Putting thread on a child’s head does NOTHING for hiccups.

Many people will get hiccups at least once in their lifetime.

In majority of people, there is NO dangerous medical cause for it. It just happens.

And it will go on its own.

REGARDLESS of what you do.

Most hiccups only stress you.

But it will NOT kill you.

Do NOT panic at all.

“So why does the hiccups tend to stop after putting the thread on a persons head?”

Simple. It’s coincidence.

A hiccup happens because of an INVOLUNTARY contraction of your diaphragm in your chest.

There is NOTHING about putting a thread on your head that does anything to that.

HOW does hiccups happen?

As I said, a hiccup is due to a sudden involuntary contraction of your diaphragm. The diaphragm is the muscle that separates your chest from your abdomen making them different compartments so your lungs can do a thorough perfect job when you breathe.

WHY does hiccups happen?

Sometimes there’s no reason.

Other times it may be due to;

Excitement,

Emotional stress,

Rushing a large meal,

Carbonated drinks and soda,

Sucking lollipop

, Swallowing air with chewing gum,
Drinking excessive alcohol,
These are the simple causes.
And for the simple causes, the hiccups tend to go after a few minutes REGARDLESS of what you do.
And a simple hiccup should NOT affect your breathing, sleeping or eating; and hiccups should NEVER last up to 48hours continuously.
If any of the above is there, see a doctor ASAP.

What are the simple things you may do?

1. Breath into paper bag (but pls don’t put it over your head)
2. Sit up, pull your knees up your chest and lean forward
3. Drink ice-cold water
4. Try take some sugar
5. Bite on a lemon/lime fruit
6. Hold your breath for a few seconds.

What you must NEVER do while having a hiccup are:

NO fizzy drinks or soda,
NO alcohol,
NO smoking,
NO chewing gums,
NO lollipops,
NO peppery foods (I hope my Yoruba friends will listen),
NO rushing of food (Cos you don’t want your friend to beg)
All these worsen hiccups.
But as I said, Once hiccups lasts longer than 48 hours continuously, pls go to a doctor: It may mean serious problems like diabetes, kidney disease, goitre, neck cancer, stroke etc.
Thanks for reading.
I hope you learnt something today.
Please share for others.
Happy weekend.
