General Requirements for Studying Medicine in any University in Nigeria

  • A minimum of credit passes in Mathematics, English Language, Physics, Biology and Chemistry in either WAEC or NECO at one sitting
  • Must have written Physics, Use of English, Chemistry and Biology in JAMB (UTME). UDUSOK and UNIMAID accept Mathematics in lieu of Physics.
  • A cut-off mark of at least 250 in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to be eligible for the Post-UTME exams. I pegged it at 250 because it brightens your chances of admission.
  • Beat the University cut-off mark for Medicine in the post-UME. Score high. It is a highly competitive course.

There is nothing like top 10 or 20 best Universities In Nigeria to study Medicine and Surgery as your first consideration before choosing the medical school should be whether or not it is accredited by the medical and dental council of Nigeria (MDCN) and National University Commission (NUC), if it is, then make that decision. Medicine is universal.

Finally, please bear in mind that studying Medicine in federal universities is by far much more cheaper than in state and private universities. So, you have to consider your pocket or your parent’s income when also making that choice of university.

Please DO NOT go to a medical school that is NOT ACCREDITED BY the MDCN. It will be a waste of money and time as you will never graduate as a doctor. Don’t be deceived, colleges of education and polytechnics do not have programmes for Medicine!
