Babyrex, Bonababe, and Paracetamol Syrup. The difference and similarities.

Many parents use these syrups interchangeably because they don’t know the difference between them and his to actually use them. 🤦🏾‍♂️

That simple mistake can increase the risk of avoidable side effects.

These are the two mistakes many parents make 👇🏾

Remember: This is for educational purposes only.

1️⃣ BabyRex

It’s a combination of paracetamol, chlorpheniramine and dill oil.

It’s usually recommended for children when they are having fever, teething pain, colic pain, bloating, sneezing or having a runny nose.

Because it contains chlorpheniramine (Piriton), it can also cause sleepiness.

2️⃣ Paracetamol Syrup

Paracetamol is paracetamol… everyone knows what it is.

Paracetamol is recommended when a child is having fever or general body pain.

For example, during malaria treatment, it is sometimes given along with other malaria medications.

It doesn’t treat a runny nose or sneezing or cough please.

3️⃣ Bonababe

Bonababe also contains paracetamol, chlorpheniramine and dill water.

It is basically the same as BabyRex and they are used for the same purpose but belongs to different brands

They are usually preferred for teething and colic pain over ordinary paracetamol because of its sedative property. Makes baby calm and drowsy to sleep.

📌 Key Differences

Brand/Name

Bonababe and Babyrex are different product names/brands — not the same exact product. One isn’t a version of the other.

Formulation & Use

Both are marketed for baby discomfort (like teething or mild pain) and often contain similar pain-relieving ingredients (e.g., paracetamol). But what exactly is in them can vary by brand and manufacturer.

Now… let’s see the mistakes.

4️⃣ First mistake

I have seen parents giving BabyRex and Paracetamol Syrup together.

This is not only bad but dangerous.

An overdose of paracetamol from both of them may not show immediate side effects, but it can have long-term effects.

Please stop this act.

5️⃣ The second mistake

I have seen a new mother rushing to buy BabyRex…

When I asked why, she said it was one of the medications someone asked her to be giving her baby.

Let me make this loud.

These syrups are not daily supplements. They are not multivitamins. They are only given when it’s necessary.

Also, because BabyRex and Bonababe have sedating antihistamines inside, they should not be given to newborn babies except when specifically prescribed by your doctor. Dont use them to induce sleep in your baby. That is drug misuse.

6️⃣ Remember

This is for educational purposes only.

If your baby is having fever, pain or is not feeling well, please speak with a healthcare professional before starting any medication.

If you have used BabyRex or Paracetamol Syrup for 2 days and there is no improvement, take the child to the hospital.
