Ogogoro popularly called “Sapele Water”, “paraga” , “Nigerian liquor”, or “sepe” is a popular Nigerian alcoholic drink that originated originally from the Urhobos, a majority tribe from Delta state, Nigeria, West Africa. Ogogoro is a very popular spirit in Nigeria and it is used for libation to the Gods, used for socialization in partys and even part of the bride price for marriages. Ogogoro is the Nigerian version of vodka, whiskey or brandy. Ogogoro contains between 30 – 60% of alcohol. In Ghana, Ogogoro is called Akpeteshie. It is made from fermented raffia palm tree juice, distillation of palmwine and sugar cane.

Ogogoro is an alcoholic drink… and doesn’t really have breath taking benefits from the medical perspective. However, Ogogoro can be used as local hand sanitizer especially in this era of coronavirus, it is used in social gatherings, libations, has economic importance, and most importantly, ogogoro is used in the preparation of herbal concoctions called “roots”. Side effects of Ogogoro
