1) INTRAUTERINE INSEMINATION (IUI)

HOW DOES IUI WORK? (PROCEDURE)

*Before IUI , ovulation stimulating medicines like metformin and clomiphene citrate (clomid) may be used.

*IUI is performed around the time of ovulation.

*Semen sample will be prepared.

*Catheter is then used to insert the sperm directly into the uterus.

This procedure can be performed during a natural menstrual cycle or with artificial hormonal stimulation.⁠

WHAT ARE THE RISKS OF IUI?

*Chance of becoming pregnant with multiples(twin, triplets) is increased if you take fertility medications when having IUI.
*Small risk of infection after IUI

WHAT IS THE SUCCESS RATE OF IUI?
*Success rate depends on various factors such as
*Female age
*Reason for infertility
*Whether fertility drugs were used or not

IUI cycles have live birth rate of between 5-15 %, but success rate may increase with every next cycle.The more IUI cycles you undergo, the higher your chances for pregnancy. Certain studies and researches show vast majority of successful IUI’S will happen within 3-4 attempts.
