Is it true that hepatitis B patients are to avoid some certain food? If yes what are they?

A patient battling with hepatitis b infection should avoid the following foods.

These foods can even interfere with the effectiveness of drugs that target the hepatitis b virus.

Avoid the following foods:

●Saturated fats found in butter.
●Sour cream,
●Other high-fat dairy foods. Fatty cuts of meat.
●Fried foods.
●Sugary treats like cookies, cake, soda, and packaged baked goods.

1. Dairy Products –

Dairy foods are extremely hard to digest. Because those with liver disease (especially cirrhosis) are more susceptible to small intestine bacterial overgrowth than those with a healthy liver. They are also more likely to experience the symptoms of lactose intolerance. Additionally, a growing number of clinicians are recognizing that eating dairy may cause small intestine bacteria overgrowth exacerbating digestive issues in patients with a liver disease.

2 Artificial Sweeteners –

The first word gives you the first clue: artificial. These sweeteners are extremely hard for the liver to process, adding additional burden to the liver. In addition to artificial sweeteners, high fructose corn syrup is no better on the liver and, while sugar isn’t exactly liver friendly, if you’re going to eat it – do so in moderation.

3. Processed Foods –

We all know processed foods contain unnatural substances, preservatives, fillers and chemically treated substances. Commonsense tells us this is not healthy for our body and the LIVER.

4. Hydrogenated Oils –

Hydrogenated (they are refined) oils are another product that is hard for the liver to handle. This includes any type of oil or fat that hardens when cold. A better choice would be flaxseed oil or virgin olive oil.

5. Run away from alcohol, paracetamol and smoking. Any of these three combined with viral hepatitis will lead to liver failure and possible liver cirrhosis.

6. Avoid canned soups, pickled meat, cheese, and processed foods that are high in salt. Before buying, read the food label for sodium content. A food is considered high in salt if it has more than 300 mg of sodium per serving.

7. No herbal concoctions please.

  1. This article has contradictions which can prove costly for people living with Hep B.
In one breath you said they can eat palm oil and in another breath you said they should avoid oil that hardens when cold.
Abi you don’t know that palm oil hardens when cold?
Also, many have said that Hep B patients are supposed to avoid protein like egg, meat and beans because it’s harder for the liver to digest those but in this article you said they can eat beans.
All these do not add up.
