Cost of Colonoscopy test in Nigeria including Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Colonoscopy in Lagos, Nigeria.
A colonoscopy test is both a diagnostic test and therapeutic procedure. Here a medical doctor pass a specially made device (with camera) called a colonoscope through your anus into your rectum and higher up just to take a look at your large intestine (colon), find out the cause or site of your rectal bleeding and possibly treat the cause or take a small tissue to find out the origin of the whatever she or he sees (histology).
Why do people do so colonoscopy?
According to clevelandclinic.org: “A colonoscopy is commonly used to evaluate gastrointestinal symptoms, such as bleeding, abdominal pain or changes in bowel habits (how often you poop, how easily you poop, and the color and consistency of your poop)”.
Colonoscopies are done to check for colorectal polyps or cancer. Removing polyps early means they can’t turn into cancer. Colonoscopy may also be requested by your doctor if you have unexplained weight loss, inflammatory bowel disease, blood in stools, diarrhoea or constipation (especially in old age),
The American Cancer society recommends that persons that have clocked 50 years should go for routine colonoscopy to screen for colorectal cancer while people with family history or other risk factors of colon cancer and African Americans should go for the same screening at 45 years.
Preparation for colonoscopy
A man on Facebook named Mel Ajero, who recently underwent colonoscopy procedure described his experience….including his colonoscopy preparation, how he felt during colonoscopy procedure, colonoscopy findings by his doctors and his return to “normal” life after the colonoscopy .
His story:
“Today, I got a colonoscopy procedure done. My doctors had hounded me for nearly 4 years to get it done and I finally did it.
Last week, I began the “pre-prep” by drinking 8 oz. of water mixed with Miralax before bedtime every night until last night.
This past Friday and Saturday, I had to avoid roughage and whole grains, only soft foods were allowed. Yesterday (Sunday) began with 2 scrambled eggs and a small Sprite soda. Lunch consisted of a cup of vanilla ice cream.
I then checked in to a hotel near the medical facility where the “cleansing” began. Throughout the day, I drank lots of water, but had to pop a couple of Dulcolax to help advance the process.
I then mixed a 32 oz. bottle of Gatorade G2 with 7 doses of Miralax followed by more water to help clean out my guts. Later in the evening, I popped 2 more of those Dulcolax pills, followed by more water before capping my Sunday with 8 oz. of water with Miralax. As you can probably tell, my body did a lot of “evacuating” during the evening…
This morning, I did another of the Gatorade G2 / 7 doses of Miralax mix to finish the prep. Thankfully, and without getting into gory details, I saw how I had progressed along and did not have to down the 8 oz. bottle of Magnesium Citrate.
My brother Mike picked me up at the hotel and took me to the medical facility and soon after the doctors administered the anesthesia, I was out for a good 25 minutes. Woke up gassy, but other than that, the doctor showed me pictures of my cleaned out colon and saw nothing there to be alarmed at. He told me I am good for another 10 years. Woo hoo!
After I was discharged, I was so hungry that I had Mike take me to Famous Ray’s of Verona for some pizza. We had a nice outdoor lunch under the shade of an umbrella outside the restaurant.
Getting a colonoscopy is no big deal. The prep is not as bad as I heard it used to be years ago. It’s over before you know it. I highly recommend that if you are over 50 to get the procedure done so that you know what you have or don’t have. You could save your own life!” He said.
You doctor will not perform a colonoscopy on you if:
➡️you’re pregnant
➡️you perform
➡️you are clinically unstable
➡️there is inadequate bowel preparation
➡️you have suspected colon perforation
➡️you had a recent myocardial infarction
➡️you have a suspected abdominal infection

Good day,
My name is Samuel, I have been having abdominal pain, a worm-like object on the right side of my stomach, this has been causing constipation, I have been using several herbs which only relieve me of the simptom. I enquired from a RN which recommend that I go for a colonoscopy to determine the root cause of the frequent stomach pain, indigestion and constipation, finance has just been the constraint here.
Please kindly recommend a laboratory or hospital in Lagos state where I can conduct this test at affordable price.
Thank you.
