Proteins are an essential part of the six classes of food. Generally, Nigerian foods are high in calories (carbohydrates and fats) but low in proteins.

Proteins, known as the building foods are very important to the growth and well being of all living creatures including humans. According to HEALTHLINE, “protein is an important component of every cell in the body. Hair and nails are mostly made of protein. Your body uses protein to build and repair tissues. You also use protein to make enzymes, hormones, and other body chemicals. Protein is an important building block of bones, muscles, cartilage, skin, and blood.”

Proteins help fill the stomach, and they are a key component for weight loss diet meal plan.

The generally accepted principle is that a woman should eat 46 grams of protein per day, while men need 56 grams (probably because of their muscle mass). However, a good number studies are suggesting that children should be much larger quantity of protein since they need it more to grow healthily. People aiming to build muscle, pregnant or nursing women, and older adults may need more protein.
