Coronavirus: Ekiti, Oyo discharge index cases, Lagos discharges 8, total discharged now 10.

There is some good news coming out of Nigeria concerning COVID-19: Ekiti and Oyo have discharged their index cases while LAGOS have discharged a total of 8 coronavirus patients since February taking Nigeria’s total tally of discharged cases to 10.

Ekiti

Ekiti State #COVID19 index case and the caregiver have been discharged from the State Isolation Centre today. The index case is on his way home after testing negative twice since admission 12 days ago.

The Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Mojisola Yaya-Kolade and a UNICEF team member escorted the State COVID19 index case and the caregiver to the waiting ambulance.

Oyo

Oyo State discharged its index patient of coronavirus after 6 days on admission. This was disclosed by the Oyo State government on their verified twitter handle. The patient who returned from America had initially tested negative but tested positive after the second test.

The index case had been in self-isolation at a private residence in Ibadan until he was transferred to the Isolation centre at Agbami, Jericho area of Ibadan on March 23, 2020.

The State COVID-19 Incident Manager, Dr. Taiwo Ladipo confirmed that the index case has been released after spending six days in the isolation centre and had two negative tests which resulted to his release.

He added that the index case is well, very stable and now back to his house. The infectious disease specialist will be reviewing him for follow up action.

Lagos

The epicenter of coronavirus in Nigeria has discharged a total of 8 patients since its first outbreak in February 27th. The index case (an Italian was discharged first followed by 2 other Nigerians after their results came back negative following the institution of treatment.

Four days ago, additional 5 persons were discharged from the infectious disease unit in Yaba making a total of 8. The state’s commissioner for health, Prof Akin Abayomi yesterday said more persons will be discharged in the coming weeks.

Nigeria will win the war against coronavirus.
