Breaking: Nigerian Government confirms second case of coronavirus (second case is a Nigerian)
The Honourable Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, has announced a second confirmed case of Coronavirus in Nigeria.
It was gathered that the victim had contact with the Italian that brought coronavirus to Nigeria.
The victim was said to be one of those under isolation.
Dr Ehanire who made the disclosure at a press conference in Edo State on Monday said the patient is a Nigerian who had contact with the Italian citizen who tested positive to the virus.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Lagos State commissioner for health, Prof Akin Abayomi have both confirmed this in a tweet on Monday.
According to the NCDC:
“The Honourable Minister @Fmohnigeria has announced a second confirmed case of #COVID19 in Nigeria. This second case is a contact of the index case, in Ogun state. The new case has been in isolation and was tested as part of our strategy to test all contacts of the index case.
Recent studies have shown that increased surveillance, isolation of contacts & in particular, contact tracing reduces the risk of spread of #COVID19. All other contacts of the index case in Ogun & Lagos will remain in isolation & testing will be done on those not yet tested.
Since the first case was confirmed in Lagos, the NCDC has been supporting the Ogun State Emergency Operations Centre to respond accordingly. We urge the public not to panic.
You can protect yourself using these six steps.
The patient is presently in Ogun state.”
