Once you find a job that interests you, familiarize yourself with the two major documents usually attached: the Person Specification (PS) and Job Description (JD). The PS outlines the qualifications needed for the job, while the JD describes the job’s responsibilities.
The PS will also detail the necessary qualifications & certifications for the post. Ensure it profile aligns with the majority of criteria mentioned in the PS. These skills are categorized from essential to desirable & will be assessed during the application & interview stages.
Take your time to review your application, ensuring it highlights your skills and experience, matching those listed in the PS. Never submit the same application form twice. Always adapt it to demonstrate how you meet the PS for the specific post you are applying for.
The supporting information section is your opportunity to market yourself, so make sure you use it to your advantage. Discuss why you are the best candidate for the job, your qualifications, relevant knowledge and experience, skills, and address any employment gaps.
Complete your application and submit it on time. Don’t be afraid of rejections. You may receive “unfortunate” emails, but don’t be discouraged. The more applications you submit, the better your chances of being invited for an interview.
If and when you are invited for an interview, revisit the job link. Familiarize yourself with the Trust, their mission and vision statements, the PS, and JD. Research the team and department. Ask questions during the interview and request feedback afterward.
