The difference between Jamaican Black Castor Oil and Haitian Black Castor Oil.â â â
Whatâs really the difference between Jamaican Black Castor Oil and Haitian Black Castor Oil?â â â â â â â â â
â â â â â â â â â
Castor oil has a rich history to begin with, being used back in ancient times with Egyptians during the mummification process. Castor oil stems from the Ricinus communis plant and has hundreds of uses. From being able to help stimulate hair growth to reducing inflammation and redness, castor oil is a pretty diverse ingredient and the difference between Jamaican and Haitian lies in the way its seed is extracted.â â â â â â â â â
â â â â â â â â â
The tradition of using castor oil in Haiti is around 100+ years before Jamaica. The deep hue of natural castor oil comes from the roasting, boiling, or heating of the seeds during the extraction process. â â â â â â â â â
â â â â â â â â â
Haitian black castor oil contains 2.04% more ricinoleic acid and 3.27 more cenitgrams of Iodine per gram (an indicator of fatty acid saturation) than Jamaican black castor oil making it ideal for hair and skin and retaining its original anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties than refined or hydrogenated castor oil which is clear and goes through a process to remove its natural color and scent.â
Labortaory studies also showed that Jamaican black castor oil (JBCO) has 0.014% lower water content than Haitian Black castor oil (HBCO). Jamaican black castor oil has 10.27 higher saponification value, suggesting that JBCO is suited to soap-making compared to Haitian black castor oil. Haitian black castor oil is far better for eye lashes and hair growth than Jamaican black castor oil.
