A team of 55 Nigerian doctors successfully separate conjoined twins at FMC Keffi.
The NIGERIAN HEALTH BLOG can confirm that a team of 55 experienced medical professionals including doctors and nurses have successfully separated a set of conjoined twins (females) who were joined at the abdomen at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Keffi, in Nasarawa State.
In a procedure which took place at the main theatre of the medical centre and lasted for about nine hours on Friday July 10th, 2020, the conjoined twins were successfully separated with no complications whatsoever as at the response of filling this report.

In a statement issued by the public relations officer of Federal Medical Centre, Keffi, Alhaji Mohammed Adamu, the surgery was undertaken by diversified specialties under the leadership of Dr. Charles Soo, a reputable Consultant (Paediatrics Surgeon).
The statement indicates that the babies are still at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of FMC Keffi, in hale and hearty condition.
According to the statement, the management of the FMC Keffi appreciated the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, Minister of State for Health, Dr O. Mamora, the Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr Abdullahi A. Sule and the Governing Board (FMC, Keffi) for their support.
The statement said the management further appreciated the team and the entire staff for their efforts.
It would be recalled that last year, major newspapers reported the case and ordeal of the parents of the conjoined twins who hail from Nasarawa LGA of the state.
It would also be recalled that after the report, Governor Abbdullahi Sule, of Nasarawa State visited the conjoined twins at FMC Keffi and made a personal donation of N10 million to facilitate their separation.
The NIGERIAN HEALTH BLOG also confirmed from a reliable source working at FMC Keffi that the twins are named Hassana and Hussaina,joined at the abdomen (omphalopagus) and were born in Toto local government area of the state where their parents also hails from.
The source also revealed the the cost of separating the conjoined twins was 25 million and the money came from Nasarawa State government and other philanthropists.
Conjoined twins separation surgery is fast becoming a routine procedure in Nigeria these days unlike before;in a well publicised report in January this year (2020), a team of 78 member medical professionals also successfully separated conjoined twin sisters that were joined at the chest.
