“Scan showed my baby’s weight reduced from 2.2kg to 2kg”
A worried pregnant woman has serious concerns, she complained that recent scan showed that her baby has lost 0.2kg weight in the womb and wants to know what to do
Her comments:
“Good afternoon doctor, please don’t be tired with us, the lord will bless you for all you do. Please doc am very concerned about my scan, I had scan last two weeks during my antenatal and d doctor said my baby was weighing 2.2kg at 31 weeks. Yesterday I had another scan because I was feeling some discomfort in my lower back and the doctor said my baby is now weighing 2.0kg! Am so confused because I eat the same way I have been eating, and he didn’t give me any explanation. Am 33weeks today, am so scared I don’t want to give birth and my baby to be underweight. Is there any thing I can start taking? Am just taking pregnacare plus supplement. I will appreciate a response thank you and God bless you for all you do. Please help me Sir.”
My response:
I understand how you feel about this especially as no pregnant woman want to give birth to an underweight baby with the attendant health, social and psychological challenges associated with raising them. Are you really sure you are eating well? What is your PCV? Were you sick at any point? Were you taking caffeinated drinks like Lipton or NESCAFE? If yes, please stop now. In my opinion, I feel a weight of 2kg at 31 weeks is still not bad. Don’t forget, that the normal baby weight is 2.5kg to 3.5kg…SO let your mind be at rest, JUST EAT WELL and repeat scan in 2 weeks. You have nothing to worry about.
