How much is AMH test in Nigeria?
What is the AMH Test?
The #AMHtest is primarily used by women who are concerned about their fertility or ovarian health (egg count).
AMH test is a blood test used to assess ovarian reserve especially as regards egg count.
AMH is also used to make diagnosis of polycystic ovarian syndrome – a major cause of irregular periods and female infertility.
The AMH test provides valuable information about a woman’s reproductive health and fertility potential. This test is performed by women who are planning to do IVF, IUI, ICSI treatment or any fertility treatments in general.
How and when do I do this test?
This test is done by taking a blood sample at any time and you can take it at any stage of your menstrual cycle.
It is recommended to stop birth control pills 1-2 months prior to having an AMH test done so that it will not interfere with the results of the report.
Smoking and alcohol drinking few weeks before the amh test may interfere with results. So do not smoke or drink alcohol.
Do I need to fast to do it?
No. There’s no need to fast to do the AMH test.
What does AMH levels mean?
A higher #AMHlevel usually indicates a greater quantity of eggs, while a lower level may suggest a reduced number, especially as age advances.
Labs measure AMH levels in nanograms per milliliter (ng/mL). Experts debate how to define typical AMH levels, but these are general ranges:
Average: Between 1.0 ng/mL to 3.0 ng/mL. Average number of eggs
Low: Under 1.0 ng/mL. Few eggs
Severely low: 0.4 ng/mL. No eggs
It’s important to note that because labs use different equipment, your results can vary slightly from lab to lab.
While test results are helpful, it’s also important to note that as you age, you have fewer eggs. This is normal! It means AMH levels decrease across the reproductive lifespan.
What are some of the benefits of doing this test?
✅ Assessing Ovarian Reserve.
✅ Determine the treatment plan for infertility.
✅ Evaluation of women’s reproductive health.
Remember, the AMH test is not an indicator of egg quality per se but quantity.
