Candidiasis is an infection caused by a Fungi or Yeast known as ‘Candida’. This Fungi lives in the human body normally, in places like the mouth, throat, gut, skin and vagina….remember what I said about ‘normal floras’ in my previous post?…good.

When there is an interruption in the normal floral balance and this fungi grows excessively to cause an infection in the mouth, it is referred to as ‘Oral Thrush’, while an infection in the Vagina is referred to as ‘Vaginal Yeast Infection’.

– From my experience in the consulting room, the most defining symptom of Vaginal Yeast Infection is an abnormal vaginal whitish or milky ‘cheese like’ discharge.

Other symptoms are:

– Pain while urinating

– Pain or discomfort during sexual intercourse

– Itching or soreness of the vagina.

It is important you know that some women are naturally at risk of coming down with Vaginal Yeast Infection. These group of women include:

Pregnant women. Pregnancy physiologically reduces a woman’s immune system, and this can affect the normal flora, resulting in an over growth of Candida.

Women on Hormonal Contraceptives, Diabetic women, women with weakened immune system due to some other disease are also at risk of coming down with Vaginal Yeast Infection.

Finally, I won’t forget to educate you that antibiotics abuse makes you prone to Vaginal Yeast infection, so, before you take any antibiotics, talk to your Physician or Pharmacist first.

1) Apply coconut oil in the infected part to reduce the itching
2) Use of Garlic
3) Oregano oil
4) Apple cider vinegar(best used)
5) Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) wash
6) Boric acid
7 Greek yoghurt
8) Vitamin C
9) Joy Ointment….Can Joy Ointment cure candidiasis? Many claims it does but not science backed.

DRUGS THAT CURES CANDIDIASIS

Over-the-counter (OTC) antifungal creams, ointments or suppositories (with clotrimazole or miconazole)

Topical Nyastatin, Fluconazole and Topical Ketoconazole.
