I had an unprotected sex about say 3 days ago… and I didn’t take Postinor emergency contraceptive pills immediately because I couldn’t find to buy in my area. So I took salt and water for the time being…will scanning thorough your site… I read one of the articles were you said salt and water doesn’t prevent pregnancy and only postinor OR postpill does… It is 5 days now after my unprotected intercourse, can I still take postinor to flush out sperm.. Can Postinor 2 flush out sperm after 3 days or 5 days after unprotected sex…

Please I need urgent answers because I am scared of getting pregnant… I am not ready to have babies yet.

Before I answer your question… Let me quickly tell you one or two things about postinor 1 Postinor2.

Postinor better called emergency contraceptive pills or morning after pill is a pill for contraception that contains a hormone called levonorgestrel. This hormone prevents pregnancy mainly by delaying or preventing ovulationovulation thereby preventing conception.

Postinor 2 is used by women to prevent pregnancy after birth control failure (such as a broken condom) or unprotected sex or in situations of unconsexual sex. Postinor works mainly by preventing the release of an egg (ovulation) during your menstrual cycle. It also makes cervical fluid thicker to help prevent sperm from passing through and reaching an egg (for fertilization) and changes the lining of the uterus (womb) to prevent attachment of a fertilized egg.

Can Postinor 2 flush out sperm after 3 days?

Postinor 2 has an 85% chance of preventing pregnancy in total. If taken within immediately or within 24 hours after unprotected sex, there is a 95% chance of preventing pregnancy. If taken after 48-72 hours, there is a 58% chance. It is not really known whether it is effective if taken more than 3 days (72 hours) after unprotected intercourse. So many doctors believe that taking Postinor after 3 days or 5 days after unprotected intercourse is a waste of time because it becomes ineffective in preventing pregnancy…

So to answer your question now… After 3 days of unprotected sex, postinor 2 does not help to flush out sperm or prevent pregnancy… However, you can go to the nearest health centre to insert IUCD… it is also an emergency contraceptive that can prevent pregnancy within 5 days of intercourse.
