An Orthodontist is a specialist of dentistry that deals with the diagnosis, prevention, and correction of malpositioned teeth and jaws, and misaligned bite patterns. The orthodontist can also focus on modifying facial growth, known as dentofacial orthopedics.

There are several specialty areas in dentistry, but the speciality of orthodontics was the first to be recognized within dentistry according to Wikipedia. Specifically, the American Dental Association recognized orthodontics as a speciality in the 1950s.
