Nigerian Skin Care Secrets and Routines.
A simple basic skin routine:
1. A gel/foamy/creamy/lotion cleanser.
2. A heavy/lightweight moisturizer.
3. A mineral/chemical sunscreen.
If you’ve oily skin, use a foamy or gel cleanser. Some might contain Hydrating/barrier repair ingredients too.
If you’ve dry skin, option for a creamy cleanser. Your skin needs Moisture at all times, and dry skin is really lacking of it.
Combination and normal skin type should go for either a gel/foamy/lotion kind of cleansers.
I will advise every other skin type to use a lightweight moisturizers except dry skin types who need much emollients and hydration. So dry skin will benefit from a heavy moisturizer instead.
Choosing a sunscreen can be an expensive investment to make, not going to ignore that.
So it would be good to be calm and make a proper decision before you spend money. Don’t pick one because it’s cheap. Pick one because it’s what your skin needs.
Some examples of sunscreens that sit well with the skin:
• Misha sungel.
• altruist.
• black girl.
• Neutrogena water gel.
• Neutrogena ultra sheer.
• Neutrogena hydro boost.
• purito centella.
• Gavia, etc, and another you can lay your pretty fingers on.
Exfoliating is a step in your routine that should be carried out occasionally.
Exfoliation basically means the removal of dead skin cells.
Chemical exfoliants are the best and most effective.
PS: they are liquids manufactured by beauty brands. Stop looking for them in a Chemical store.
Salicylic acid is a good exfoliant for oily skin and acne prone skin.
Lactic acid is gentle and can be used by other skin types.
Mandelic acid has anti-inflammatory properties; good for inflamed acnes, great for Hyperpigmentation, and can be used by other skin types.
Either of these exfoliants should be introduced into your skin gently to build your skin resistance — once a week at first, then stabilize at twice weekly after a month or two.
It shouldn’t be used beyond twice weekly.
Any other ingredients like hyaluronic acid serum for hydration, Azelaic acid or Niacinamide for Hyperpigmentation and acne, or Retinoids for Hyperpigmentation and acne, etc can be added when necessary. They are extra.
Finally, skincare is a lifestyle. It isn’t a one time application of a product for a particular skin condition, then you move your way.
It’s showing care and concern to yourself. Its self investment and the rewards are endless.
