➡️biopsy of suspicious lesions for further investigation e.g. histology.

Procedure – How is It Done?

Under appropriate anaesthesia usually general anaesthesia or local paracervical block, you will be placed in lithotomy position. You will then be cleaned and draped before the hysteroscope (a device) is introduced under direct vision, transcervically (via your cervix )into the uterine cavity(womb).

This may be facilitated by the dilatation of the cervix if necessary. With the aid of the appropriate distension medium, the uterine cavity is sytematically inspected and the diagnostic or therapeutic procedure is performed.

The procedure shouldn’t be painful. However, you may experience some cramping during or after the procedure.

Complications of hysteroscopy

Hysteroscopy has some side effects known medically as complications. They include:

➡️damage to the cervix that may lead to cervical incompetence.
