UNBELIEVABLE: Isolated COVID-19 patients in Gombe Protest Poor Welfare Package on the highway
Weirdest thing I watched today. Covid-19 positive patients on a protest in Gombe, joined by crowd from community. Protesting substandard food & treatment at Isolation Center. (They all blocked a major highway). Now there’s possibly an entire community in need of quarantine and possible infection.
Here is a video as reported by TVC:

The protesters also said they have not been given any medications since confinement and they want better feeding packages.
A resident of the community, who spoke with a correspondent of the NIGERIAN HEALTH BLOG, said, “They (COVID19 positive patients) have left the isolation center and are presently destroying people’s properties on the main highway.”

According to our correspondent, people in the state including the infected still feel coronavirus is a joke, hence this reckless behaviour that will end up putting every attempt great danger.
According to the latest report from Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Gombe State currently has 96 confirmed cases of the virus.
When contacted by the NIGERIAN HEALTH BLOG, Commissioner for Health in the state, Ahmed Gana, did not pick up his phone calls or return his messages.
However, an official of the state’s Ministry of Health confirmed the situation to our correspondent.
It remains to be seen the state government’s reaction to this serious break of COVID19 protocol.
Quite a number of people has reacted to this recent development in Gombe on Social Media. According to @molarah26, a follower of the NIGERIAN HEALTH BLOG on Twitter: “It appears apparently, that Covid-19 patients not only need drug therapy, they need orientation on safe behaviours and how not to infect others or get reinfected. Hope the authorities are taking notes.” She said.
