Date of Index Case: 11th of April, 2020
Kano Records first case
Kano has recorded its 1st case of Covid-19 in the State. The index case lives around UDB Road, he returned from Abuja on the eve of the border closure in the State. All those close to him have been tested and are awaiting results. He is currently at Kwanar Dawaki Isolation Centre.
According to the Press Release by the State governor, Ganduje: “A 75 year old former ambassador of the Federal Republic has been documented as the index case of COVID 19 in the state of Kano. Although he has no travel history outside the country, the former civil servant did return from Abuja on the eve of the state’s border closure. We have currently isolated the patient at the Kwanar Dawarki Research Center and have run tests on persons who have come in contact with him in the past period. Our preparations of the past month have come to fruition as we have taken adequate measures to contain the outbreak.”
12th of April 2020: Kano state govt has announced that contact tracing of people who had contact with the index case has commenced and all tricycles are only allowed to carry one passenger henceforth.
14th of April, 2020: Kano records 2 fresh cases.
15th April 2020: The Kano State Ministry of Health @KNSMOH has announced 5 new additional Covid-19 cases in the State. Making it a total of 9 confirmed positive cases. The 5 new cases were all traced to the index case.
