Amidst coronavirus pandemic in Nigeria, many prominent persons and reputable organisations have decided to support the Nigerian government’s effort in stopping COVID19 in its tracks by way of making monetary donations or rendering essential services.

I decided to do a compilation of these COVID19 philanthropists and establishments below.

1. GOD IS GOOD MOTORS just donated their buses to NCDC.

The popular transport company, God is Good yesterday announced that will donate some vehicles to the NCDC as their corporate social responsibility to help stop COVID19. From their tweet: “We will like to donate buses to @NCDCgov to help support its operations, as it works tirelessly to arrest the COVID-19 situation in Nigeria”.

2. Aero contractors donated planes and pilots. to move medical items around the country for free.

Nigeria’s oldest surviving airline, Aero Contractors, has offered its aircraft both fixed wing and helicopters to the Federal Government for airlift of relief materials, medical equipment and personnel in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

This was disclosed by Ado Sanusi, the CEO of the company, who said the offer was the contribution of the airline in support of government’s fight against the virus and treatment of those already infected.

3. Dangote donated 200 million

Just as his philanthropic gesture to Nigeria during the Ebola crisis in 2014 in Nigeria, Africa’s richest man, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, is the first person in Nigeria that pledged 200 million naira to the Federal Government help curb the spread of COVID19. His foundation, also donated 48 million for the training of health workers during this period. Read full story here.

In a memo being circulated by the federal ministry of finance. Dangote have also recently donated q billion apart from the initial N200 million – making his contribution so far to be 1.2billion Naira. He has also donated buses to NCDC to make logistics easy.

4. GTB donated 100-bed ICU.

In a pressGuaranty Trust Bank says it has set up a 100-bed intensive care facility in Onikan, Lagos.

Segun Agbaje, the bank’s chief executive officer, said the facility would be equipped with personnel and other equipment needed to care for Covid-19 patients.

“At GTBank, our people are our most valuable asset, and your health and safety is our utmost concern,” Agbaje said in a release by the bank.

“That is why we are constantly monitoring the Coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak and taking all the necessary precautions to make sure that our workplaces remain safe for everyone. He said.

5. Jumia

Jumia offers e-commerce services to distributes medical supplies to neighbours.

6. Vitafoam

Vitaform promises to donate 100 beds and pillows to help fight against coronavirus

7. Access bank is donating a 1000-bed ICU.

Access Bank to build a 1000-bed centre for COVID-19 patients. Access Bank has also donated 1billion Naira to fight coronavirus.

8. Jack Ma, owner of Alibaba and the Chinese billionaire donated medical items worth millions of naira..

Jack Ma donated 20,000 test kits, 100,000 masks and 1,000 medical use protective suits and face shields to Nigeria.

The Chinese billionaire had used his foundation to forward millions of face masks, testing kits and other protective equipment to Africa as the continent battles to arrest the spread of COVID-19, a deadly disease caused by coronavirus.

9. United Bank of Africa

Tony Elumelu, the CEO of UBA group announced today that his organisation has donated $14 million (5billion) to Africa for fight against coronavirus. Out of the pledged 5billion Naira, Nigeria gets the lion’s share as 1billion Naira goes to Lagos state government and 500 million to the Federal Government.

10. BUA GROUP donates 1 billion

To strengthen national response tocoronavirus(COVID-19) in Nigeria, industrialist and founder ofBUA Group, Abdul-Samad Rabiu, has announced a donation of N1 billion in cash through the BUA Foundation.

A statement from the BUA Group Thursday evening said the businessman has also placed an order for an additional donation of equipment and medical supplies including testing kits and medical protective gear to 9 states in Nigeria.

“These medical supplies are being airfreighted and will arrive Nigeria as soon as possible. States to benefit include Lagos, Kano, Adamawa, Edo, Kwara, Rivers, Abia, Akwa-Ibom and Sokoto.”

Speaking on the donation, Mr Rabiu said it was very important for the private sector to support the government’s effort to curb the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic. This was first reported by Premium Times.

11. Pastor E. A Adeboye

Pastor E. A. Adeboye through RCCG Christian Social Responsibility has donated 11 Intensive Care Unit beds across the country fully fitted with ventilators that will be most needed in the care for COVID-19 cases.

12. Femi Otedola

CEO of Forte Oil, Femi Otedola, today (27th March) announced on his verified Twitter handle that he will be contributing 1 billion Naira to the fight geared at eradicating COVID-19 in Nigeria .

13. Keystone Bank

As part of a robust effort to combat the deadly coronavirus outbreak in Nigeria, the management of Keystone Bank has announced the donation of N1 billion for the purchase of relief materials, critical care facilities and protective gear to contain the spread of the virus.

Tubaba has donated 10 million Naira to federal government to fight coronavirus according to a memorandum released by the Federal Ministry of Finance.
