Dr Obaseki emerges CMD. After months of political tussle, for the exalted office of the ubth Chief Medical Director that saw about 25 contenders jostling for the plum job, the federal government on Thursday appointed Dr. Darlington Obaseki the substantive CMD of UBTH (University of Benin Teaching Hospital).
Until now Dr. Obaseki served as the acting CMD of the hospital following the expiration of the tenure of the former CMD, Prof Micheal Ibadin.
Dr Obaseki’s story has been a meteoric rise, he graduated from the prestigious University of Benin in 1991. He became consultant of Pathology in 2001 and a professor in 2017. Dr Obaseki was my teacher and course adviser during my University days in medical school. He was a one-time head of department of Morbid Anatomy, University of Benin.
As my teacher and course adviser, Dr. Darlington Obaseki was very active and committed to seeing us excel in our academic field. He held numerous talk sessions with my class where he admonished us on hard work, honesty, attitudinal change and universal best practices in Medicine and patient care.

“We are going to strengthen our reforms which are geared towards making UBTH the best teaching hospital in Nigeria. I am going to work with my team and the entire staff of this hospital to achieve to achieve greater successes.”
He promised to improve the welfare of both patients and staff in UBTH.
Prof Obaseki is approachable, a football enthusiast and happily married with children.
